Transparency is a major tenet of Governor Kim Reynolds and Lieutenant Governor Adam Gregg’s administration. To further that goal for IT projects, the State of Iowa will be using this project reporting system. Effective on September 4, 2018, all state agencies are required to provide information about their IT projects, including project budget, timeline, and whether the project is on track. This requirement can be found in Chapter 8B.4 and 8B.21.

Other changes impacting projects include new enterprise standards requiring projects over $100,000 to be managed by a knowledgeable person with previous project management experience, and weekly project status reporting for large projects valued over $500,000; monthly reporting for smaller projects. The new enterprise standards have been published to the OCIO website.

Being transparent about our spending and performance on IT projects is the right thing to do and is already in place with many other states. The Center for Digital Government specifically recommended Iowa implement a project dashboard in order to advance our review in the Digital State’s Survey (grading of the state IT performance).
